Brazilian star Neymar is not trying to outdo Messi when it comes to football’s top prize – the Ballon D’Or.
In speaking with Marca, Neymar was quoted, saying “Messi is a star. Playing against him is not good; it’s bad. It’s going to be a tough game.”
But what is clear is that the former Santos star was able to make an excellent impression last season as FC Barcelona won their second treble. It’s been such good going that his name might be included in the 2015 Ballon D’Or list.
However, beating Lionel Messi might be a tall order since he has been in sublime form. Yet the youngster is only interested in playing his own game rather than competing with the world’s best.
Only after a successful season, Neymar and Brazil are set to meet Argentina and his Barca teammate for a World Cup qualifier.
He admits that it will take a lot to keep Messi down, in saying, “Messi is a star. Playing against him is not good; it’s bad. It’s going to be a tough game.”
As for his contribution to Barca’s campaign last season, he netted 22 goals and which is the most that he managed to do so in his career as a football player.
Of course, his goal against Paris Saint Germain in the Champion League has been nominated as a contender for the UEFA Goal of the Season prize.
People are expecting his name to feature with Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi for the top honor in football even his chances to win the Ballon D’Or are admittedly slim.
